Ghanaian peacekeepers donate water to Rmeish school and relief agency
As part of UNIFIL’s support to local communities in south Lebanon, Ghanaian peacekeepers delivered water to a school and a relief agency in the village of Rmeish last week.
Following requests to help address water needs of Ecole Notre Dame du Liban (Our Lady of Lebanon School) and the Rmeish Red Cross Society, UNIFIL peacekeepers supplied 30,000 litres of water to the school and 20,000 litres to the Red Cross. This was done before the ceasefire agreement, when there was a high level of violence in south Lebanon.
The school principal, Rita Eid, expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian peacekeepers for the “timely response,” noting that the water would significantly alleviate some of the school’s administrative challenges, ensuring better conditions for the students and staff. The school has continued to operate despite the conflict in the area.
Andrew Jarjour of the Rmeish Red Cross Society also echoed Ms. Eid’s comments, adding that the donated water would enable the agency’s daily activities.
Despite challenges, UNIFIL’s more than 10,000 peacekeepers across south Lebanon continue to deliver on their Security Council-mandated tasks.
