Media agencies are invited to a Joint Exercise in natural disaster response in the area adjacent to the LAF Headquarters Barracks in Tyr, close to the Hotel Platinum roundabout, at 8:30 am on Sunday, 27 February 2011.

The two-day exercise will be conducted on 26 and 27 February jointly by the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), in cooperation with a number of government and non-government organizations.

The exercise entitled "United Beacon" is based on a fictitious scenario in reaction to a large humanitarian emergency in the aftermath of an earthquake.

The aim of the exercise is to enhance the coordinated capability of all the participating agencies to effectively respond to an unforeseen natural disaster.
