More firefighters benefit from UNIFIL support

As part of UNIFIL’s efforts to enhance capacity of local emergency workers in south Lebanon, the mission’s French-led Force Commander’s Reserve (FCR) unit recently conducted first aid training for firefighters of the Frun fire station and donated basic first aid kits.

This comes in the wake of similar support to firefighters from the Tyre fire station, who trained with the French peacekeepers in conducting rescue work by using metal structures to put out fires in an enclosed environment.

Such support is crucial as emergency Civil Defense workers and institutions in south Lebanon lack adequate resources especially during the ongoing exchanges of fire across the Blue Line continue to affect thousands of lives.

UNIFIL’s cooperation with the Lebanese Civil Defense dates back to 2008 and has encompassed a plethora of support interventions ranging from equipping of the existing civil defense facilities to facilitation of joint exercises and training courses.
