UNIFIL peacekeepers operating in south-eastern Lebanon conducted last week first aid training with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) at the mission’s Sector East headquarters near Marjayoun.
Late this morning, UNIFIL detected rocket launches from outside UNIFIL’s area of operations in south Lebanon towards the Israeli-occupied Golan.
This was followed almost immediately by an artillery response from Israel directed at the general area around Kafer Chouba.
UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col today chaired a Tripartite meeting with senior officers from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at a UN position in Ras Al Naqoura.
UNIFIL’s Spanish peacekeepers provided a range of firefighting equipment to 10 Lebanese Civil Defence Centres (CDCs) in south-eastern villages last week. The support is crucial especially during the ongoing dry season when bushfires in Lebanon are rampant.
Just after noon today, UNIFIL received reports that at least two rockets had been fired from Lebanon towards Israel.
The IDF confirmed the reports and responded with artillery fire.
Just before 4 a.m. this morning, UNIFIL radar detected the firing of rockets from an area north-west of Al Qulaylah toward Israel.
Our radar subsequently detected return artillery fire by the IDF.
UNIFIL and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) today paid tribute to a fallen French peacekeeper, who died on Saturday due to medical conditions, at a solemn ceremony held in a UNIFIL French base in Deir Kifa, south Lebanon.
