UNIFIL head meets with Lebanese judiciary officials

UNIFL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Michael Beary met with a delegation of Lebanese judiciary officials led by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council Judge, Juean Fahed, and the Prosecutor General Judge Samir Hammoud, in Beirut on Tuesday.

While welcoming Major General Beary at the Justice Palace, Justice Fahed said the visit was “a clear evidence of commitment to the cause of peace and UNIFIL’s constant support of Lebanese authorities.”

Justice Hammoud expressed gratitude for the presence of UNIFIL and its contribution to ensuring stability in the south of the country and paid tribute to the fallen peacekeepers for offering their life to the cause of peace in South Lebanon.

Force Commander Beary, on his part, underlined the important role played by the judiciary in Lebanon and emphasized the critical importance for UNIFIL to build on the very cooperative relationship that has been established during the years on sensitive and crucial matters of mutual interest. This is the UNIFIL head’s first visit to the Judicial Palace.

Earlier in the day, UNIFIL Force Commander Major General Beary and Justice Fahed together laid wreath at the memorial statute of the four Judges Martyrs at the Justice Palace in Beirut.
