UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Paolo Serra today received the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwagi at UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura.

The Commanders, accompanied by senior UNIFIL and LAF officials, discussed issues related to the implementation of resolution 1701 with particular focus on coordinated operations of the two Forces within the framework of the strategic partnership between UNIFIL and the LAF.

Following the visit, Major General Serra said: "I have expressed my most sincere appreciation for the spirit of partnership that LAF continues to demonstrate with UNIFIL and its deep dedication in maintaining a high level of coordination with the Mission, despite its additional challenges elsewhere in the country."

He added: "General Kahwagi's visit to UNIFIL today is a strong reaffirmation of the trust and friendship that define our cooperation at every level and in all our work together in pursuance of our mandate under resolution 1701. Our strategic partnership with the Lebanese Armed Forces remains one of the main pillars for the success of our mission."

Earlier, on his arrival, the LAF Commander inspected a UNIFIL Guard of Honour and signed the UNIFIL Book of Honour in the office of the Force Commander.
