UNIFIL Force Commander extends holiday greetings to local leaders

UNIFIL's Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Luciano Portolano hosted local authorities in south Lebanon today at the UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura, to exchange greetings and wishes for the holiday season.

Major-General Portolano took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the civilian, military and security leaders for their continued support and reaffirmed UNIFIL's commitment to peace and security.

"The stability in UNIFIL's area of operation is not by chance, but because there are outstanding representatives of the government of Lebanon – great leaders which have the command and responsibility of one of the most sensitive areas in Lebanon."

"If UNIFIL has succeeded, it is because there is a very strong cooperation and relationship between the multi-national UNIFIL component, Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the supportive local community, represented by all of you."

UNIFIL Force Commander emphasized that UNIFIL impartially implements its mandate under UN Security Council resolution 1701, working closely with the LAF and supporting the local communities in consultations with local leaders.
