Shooting incident in Shab'a farms area

UNIFIL statement on shooting incident in Shab'a farms area on Sunday 5 October 2014.

On Sunday 5 October at around 1.56pm UNIFIL was informed by the LAF about a shooting incident in Shab'a farms area. The incident involved troops from the LAF and IDF.

UNIFIL Acting Force Commander, Brigadier General Tarundeep Kumar immediately established contact with senior commanders of the LAF and the IDF urging them to exercise maximum restraint and to cooperate with UNIFIL in order to prevent an escalation.

Following the incident, one LAF soldier was injured and taken to Marjayoun hospital. He is reportedly out of danger.

The parties have reaffirmed their commitment to the cessation of hostilities and are fully cooperating with UNIFIL's efforts to prevent further incidents.

UNIFIL has launched an investigation into the incident in collaboration with the parties.

UNIFIL condemned the incident which is a violation of UN Security Council resolution 1701.

The situation in the area is now calm.
