As peace along the Blue Line remains a shared aspiration, Lebanese officials and local leaders joined UNIFIL peacekeepers today in marking the International Day of Peace, which fell on Sunday, 21 September, at the UN mission’s head

Following a request from the Government of Lebanon, UNIFIL peacekeepers last week resumed humanitarian demining in southern Lebanon – nearly two years after operations were suspended due to exchanges of fire across the Blue Line.
The UN flag was raised once again yesterday at a UNIFIL observation post along the Blue Line in Labbouneh. The post, which was damaged during the recent conflict, underwent major repairs recently.

The role of UNIFIL’s Liaison Branch grew steadily and significantly as the exchanges of fire across the Blue Line intensified since October 2023.
UNIFIL effort to build the capacity of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has gathered momentum with more training activities conducted over the past week.
Last month, Ghanaian peacekeepers, together with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), supported farmers in the villages of Rumaysh, Ayta Ash Shab, and Ramya during the harvest.
Yesterday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) dropped grenades near peacekeepers working alongside Lebanese soldiers to provide security for civilian workers in Maroun ar-Ras. The workers were trying to clear the ruins of homes destroyed due to the war.
Nearly 450 people of southern Lebanon joined UNIFIL’s Indian peacekeepers in Sector East in a symbolic “Walk for Peace” initiative to honour the birth of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October.
UNIFIL’s Indian peacekeepers launched last week a computer literacy campaign for women within their area of responsibility in south-eastern Lebanon, aiming to expand economic opportunities for the local community.
